THE LANCASTER LOVE PROJECT…please help these beautiful Chows
CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE “LANCASTER LOVE” AMAZEE PROJECT AND PLEASE DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE
In May of this year, 92 Chow dogs were seized from a Lancaster county home and taken to several temporary locations for shelter. Many of the dogs were suffering from various ailments including but not limited to parasites, skin and ear infections and one was said to have been picked up by this rescue person with injuries suffered from a vehicle collision.
Vets and shelters have provided emergency care for these dogs but the time has come where they need to be adopted to their forever homes and the bills for their recovery have to be paid.
The way we look at it, a goal of $4000 U.S. will settle most of the current vet bills, several have already been paid for by generous guarantors. The bills were well in excess of what we are trying to fundraise right now
ONLY 10.00 EACH FROM 400 PEOPLE AND WE CAN QUICKLY REACH OUR GOAL!!
An auction will also be set up with many really impressive and ‘in demand’ artists’ pieces being offered.
We will keep you posted on the auction progress as it happens.
Today we plead with you to help those who have helped these suffering animals. We ask you to take whatever you can afford and pledge it toward the rehab and repair of these poor little Chows who were left abandoned and forgotten.

THIS VIDEO IS BY THE HUMANE LEAGUE OF LANCASTER COUNTY TAKEN IN MAY 2009
It is not graphic but provides a lot of information about the seizure situation
A special heartfelt thank you to the HUMANE LEAGUE OF LANCASTER COUNTY, as well as all the volunteers who selflessly put in countless hours, and many times drove half a day to get to these dogs to help groom and assess these 92 Chows.
The volunteers are not compensated, and spent days up to their elbows in dirty dog coat and feces and putting themselves at times in a dangerous situation to comfort and groom a number of the dogs who were in discomfort and fearful of what was happening to their lives.
You are all champions to our breed and there are not enough words to express thanks on behalf of our beloved Chows. Please help give these incredible Chows the dignity and good health and homes they deserve.

I saw first hand the condition of some of these dogs from the 92 chow rescue as my sister Marianne and I went there to try and lend a helping hand. The condition of alot of these dogs was appalling. The staff at Lancaster Animal Shelter to me was amazing. This was ALOT of dogs to care for-it took me back to see all of them and not only just the chows but the other dozens and dozens of other dogs and cats that were being cared for in overwhelming conditions. Throughout the day that I was there-all had clean bedding, food and water and their living conditions were spotless. These volunteers worked non stop to provide for all these animals. Cindy Stone and Barbara Bakert worked to get these chows as clean as they could so they had a better chance at a home. Cindy has made numerous trips back and forth and still has I believe 3 of the rescues at her home. Believe me it took alot of work and I admire them for their efforts. All I can say is these chows are onto a better life and getting the medical care they needed. It is sad that things like this happen but they do. We can’t stop all of the sorrow and heartbreak out there but all of us in a small way can help contribute when these situations arise. It is good for us-it is good for THEM.
Carol Sue and all of the volunteers..Thank you so much for all you have done to selflessly come to the aid of this breed you obviously adore to bits. I am so grateful and proud of the Chow community when you all come together in times of need like this. Big high five and group hug!!!!! Sandra

Lisa, thank you so much for your encouraging comments I’m so happy to see people signing up for the project and purchasing items to help out. The auction will be announced soon as well when Christine gets it set up. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!!
Over 4 years ago, I unexpectedly lost my female chow of 12 years to a stroke My first response was to try a local rescue. I contacted the individual ( the chow hoarder ) repeatedly over a 4 week period as they had a beautiful chow female who I felt would be a good fit w/my male. I never heard a word, and believe me I called and left numerous voicemails, so obviously the individual was hoarding chows several years ago. In May I was outlet shopping in Lancaster and passed the humane Society there. They had a large sign that said Chow Time, so I had to stop. The dogs they had were just lovely. Kudos to all the people who spent so much time grooming them. I am still interested in adding to my Chow family, does anyone on the website know where I may find more info on the dogs. I will definitely be donating $$$ come payday.
Connie, thank you so much for your comments. Dog hoarding is a very sad and not so uncommon occurence and the double edge sword it creates between the love for animals and getting in over one’s head is a big reality in rescue circles
This is one of my favorite articles on the subject even though I am not personally a fan of HSUS….the article does a good job of explaining the need for rehabilitation for the person who has collected to the point of neglect……. as well as rehab for the unfortunate animals involved.

I would say the person to contact would be Christine Farnell to find out more about where some of these dogs are now. I actually had the same question in the back of my head and will ask her myself and post info on the donation site. Thank you for the reminder.
And thank you so much in advance for any donation you can give!!!! We are at 488.00 at the time of this writing which is excellent for less than 24 hours of fundraising with little advertising so far!!! Thank you one and all!!
A quick update!!! We are over the 1000.00 mark of the 4000.00 we need to pay the vet bills for the Lancaster Chows!!! THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!! I will do a blog post here this weekend with a more complete update. Go to the DONATION SITE to read more and see the newly posted photo. Be sure to stop by the WALL there too
Now a member of this project too. Payday/Paypal – I haven’t got much but a little. I hope it will help and that more people will give just a little to help these members of our beloved breed.
Thanks Sandra for letting us be able to help where it’s so much needed by being there for these Chows and putting up a big work making us all aware of the distress that these poor Chows are in.
Love Ya
With ChowLove and my deepest & most healing wishes for the Chows

Hi Everyone,
I want to personally thank everyone that has donated and supported the Chow Chows that were taken in from Lancaster. Your support has lessened the load we as rescues are faced with everyday.
I run Chow Chow Rescue of Central New York out of my home in Cicero, NY. I have several of the Lancaster Chow Chows that are available for adoption. If you are interested in a Chow please contact me at chowchow@twcny.rr.com. You can see some of the Chows at http://www.chowrescue.petfinder.com
Again, thank you all so much,

Though these chows are being helped thks to volunteers and others having worked countless hrs, it is just so heartbreaking to think abt the misery life they’ve had before. Fingers crossed the rehoming is a success.
It was my plan to enter Kef to two shows in September. Cut it down to one and sent a donation instead.
Thank you so much Lene and Tuula and EVERYONE for your kind words of support and your donations to this worthy cause!!! I am so impressed at our Worldchow community once again for being there when our chows need you the most. You are true fanciers of the breed in every sense of the word
