I was one of those vet techs working the afternoon the 'fire dogs' came in. It was absolutely heart wrenching. I work very closely with Cyrus and Iris now on a weekly basis. They are amazing animals! With and AMAZING, DEDICATED, LOVING owner. Although, my heart was broken the day I met them, light up every time I see them now. Karen, It has been a pleasure getting to know you, your pets and 'helpers'. I have learned so much from your situation -- not only medical, but emotional too. My prayers stay with you and all that surrounds you.

Karen
I remember when their dad was born and I guess I have seen three or so litters out of Morgan! I sure like the puppy to the far right on the group shot.

I am so thrilled for you that you got these babies@
Keep sharing and keep healing!

Ciao

Karen, what an incredible support system you have here!!! I am constantly blown away by the kindness and heartfelt comments you all have been leaving here and in emails I've been getting.

Bernices comment really struck a chord. She and I have talked at length in the past about the frustrations we all face as breeders....and it goes without saying , this challenge of yours is a biggie. Nevertheless, your attitude and perseverance are incredible. I have no doubt you will rise above this challenge..not weaker ...but stronger because of it. I'm so incredibly proud of you Karen...Love Sandra

Karen - part of our early mentorship in the breed was that every breeder will go through at least one (& the longer you continue, more such occasions) very difficult time that just makes you want to give it all up completely & with conviction at the time.

Different breeders go through different trials, and yours is probably one of the worst trials anyone may ever face as a breeder. But your mettle shows & it is with admiration we watch your response to this situation. Your foundations proved solid and your reasons for continuing are manifest in this litter and the fact that you did indeed not lose it all - they are here - living, breathing, beautiful and full of their lineage - making you take a direction you may never otherwise have.

You've acknowledged this to all of us & made us realise we should look for that moment when we face (yet once again for some) a really tough time in breeding - and then find that reason to continue in the way life directs us. Go, Chow, Go.

Ciao from sunny South Africa

How beautiful and alert they are!! Although you will always have your other "Chow babies" in your heart, as you look at these adorable pups, you will remember the generations that went before them and know that this is the "NEW" generation. I think they will always be special to you and help to bring you some peace. What a blessing to have them healthy .

Thank you all for your comments about the litter of puppies that I have. The shame of it is that I didn't really enjoy them the way I always do when a litter is born. When I have a litter of puppies, even on the first day the puppies arrive, I look at them and think about how they will look as they mature and who will be staying with me and who will be going to other loving homes, and how beautiful they are and what a joy it is to hold a newborn puppy and to touch their little toes and just hold them close and love them. But when I tried to do that with this litter, I just thought about the generations of chows that are not here anymore that are related to these puppies. I just didn't have the excitement that comes with having a litter and I missed that. Also I was worried about them as their mother was in the fire. I was afraid there might be problems with their eyes when they opened, I was scared that they might have breathing problems, things like that. But they are very healthy puppies and now that they are walking around and developing their own unique personalities, I am falling in love with them, as I should have when they were first born. I still cry every day for the dogs I lost, but these puppies are part of those dogs that I lost and I have come to realize that makes them even more special. If you don't mind, I will send pictures from time to time to share with everyone. As for the name Phoenix, a lot of people are telling me to name one Phoenix but I think that would remind me even more of the fire and the dogs I lost so I don't know if I can do that. Thank you so much for taking an interest in these puppies and being such good friends to me.
